Adequate Medical Examination

VA Terminology Definition

Plain English Definition

A C&P exam that meets legal requirements - thorough, based on accurate history, and supported by adequate reasoning.

Why This Matters

If a C&P exam is inadequate (incomplete, ignores evidence, lacks rationale), it shouldn't be used against you. Inadequate exams are grounds for remand on appeal.

Example

The examiner's opinion says 'not related to service' but gives no explanation why. This lacks adequate rationale. On appeal, you argue for a new exam because this one is inadequate.
