Extraschedular Rating
VA Terminology Definition
Plain English Definition
A rating above what the standard rating schedule allows, for cases where the schedule doesn't capture your disability's true severity.
Why This Matters
If your condition causes impairment not covered by the standard criteria, you may qualify for an extraschedular rating. These are rare and require referral to the Director of Compensation Service.
Example
Your migraines are rated 50% (the max schedular rating), but you have 20+ prostrating attacks per month versus the criteria's 'frequent' attacks. An extraschedular rating might be appropriate.
