Favorable Finding
VA Terminology Definition
Plain English Definition
A decision in your favor on a specific element of your claim that the VA must honor in future decisions.
Why This Matters
Once the VA makes a favorable finding (like acknowledging an in-service event), they generally can't reverse it without clear evidence of error. This protects you in appeals.
Example
The VA denied service connection but acknowledged your in-service knee injury occurred. That's a favorable finding - in your appeal, you only need to prove nexus, not the in-service event.
