The first disability percentage assigned when the VA grants service connection for a condition.
Why This Matters
Your initial rating is based on the evidence from your claim and C&P exam. If you disagree, you can appeal within one year or file for an increase later if your condition worsens.
Example
The VA grants service connection for your PTSD with an initial rating of 50%. You believe it should be 70% based on your symptoms. You have one year to appeal the initial rating.
