When the VA lowers your disability percentage, usually after a re-examination shows improvement.
Why This Matters
The VA can reduce ratings if your condition improves, but strict rules apply. They must prove sustained improvement, not just one good exam day. Reductions have due process protections including advance notice.
Example
The VA schedules a routine exam for your knee. The examiner notes improvement. Before reducing your rating, the VA must send you a proposal letter and give you 60 days to respond with evidence.
