Gulf War Presumptive

VA Terminology Definition

Plain English Definition

Conditions that are automatically service-connected for veterans who served in the Gulf War (1990-present) in Southwest Asia.

Why This Matters

Gulf War veterans can claim 'undiagnosed illnesses' and 'medically unexplained chronic multisymptom illnesses' as presumptive. Conditions like chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, and IBS are covered.

Example

A veteran who served in Kuwait in 2003 develops chronic fatigue syndrome and IBS with no clear medical cause. These can be claimed as Gulf War presumptives without proving specific exposure.
