A 100% disability rating that the VA has determined is permanent - meaning no future re-evaluations and access to additional benefits.
Why This Matters
P&T status means the VA believes your condition will never improve. This provides security (no surprise rating reductions) and unlocks benefits like Chapter 35 education benefits for dependents and Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC) eligibility for survivors.
Example
A veteran with a 100% PTSD rating receives a letter stating their disability is 'permanent and total.' They won't face future C&P exams for that condition, and their children can use Chapter 35 education benefits.
