Plain English Definition
A percentage (0-100%) that represents how much your service-connected disability affects your ability to work. Higher percentage means higher monthly payment.
Why This Matters
Ratings go in increments of 10% (0, 10, 20, 30... up to 100%). Each rating level has specific criteria you must meet. Rating decisions can be appealed if you disagree.
Example
A 70% PTSD rating means 'occupational and social impairment with deficiencies in most areas.' A 50% rating means 'reduced reliability and productivity.' Each level has specific symptom criteria.
